CHICAGO – The Marquette University women's soccer team ended its season on Friday afternoon with a 4-0 loss to DePaul at Wish Field in Chicago.
Senior goalkeeper Maddy Henry made six saves in her final career match for the Golden Eagles (6-11-1, 3-5-1 BIG EAST) and ends her career with 386 and an even 100 for the second year in a row.
DePaul (8-7-3, 5-3-1 BIG EAST), which heads to Villanova to face the Wildcats on Sunday in the BIG EAST Conference quarterfinals, received a pair of goals from leading scorer Morgan Turner.
Turner scored her ninth goal of the season to give DePaul the lead in the 22nd minute. The junior struck her shot from the top of the box that Henry was not able to corral.
DPU's second score came on an Avery Hay penalty kick after Josie Kelderman fouled DePaul's Mikaela Hoard at the penalty spot.
Henry made a couple of early saves in the second half but needed a heads-up play from senior defender Emily Hess in the 62nd minute to keep the deficit at two goals. Henry came out to play a shot from Hoard and the ball continued toward the net before Hess made her way to clear the ball at the goalmouth.
Despite the defensive heroics from Hess, Turner scored her second goal of the match less than three minutes later to build onto the DePaul lead. And the Blue Demons would add a fourth with just 13 seconds remaining on a Jade Eriksen-Russo score.
Marquette still owns a 15-6-2 edge in the all-time series with DePaul and is 6-4 against DePaul in Chicago. The Golden Eagles claimed a 2-0 victory over the Blue Demons in their last trip to Chicago in 2017.
Marquette, which would have qualified for the quarterfinals with a win or draw, ends its season at 6-11-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the BIG EAST.
