Top-100 prospect continues to rise in rankings
The Marquette University men's basketball team has added prep standout Osasere "Oso" Ighodaro (Chandler, AZ/Desert Vista HS) to the roster for the 2020-21 campaign, head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Wednesday morning.
Â
Osasere Ighodaro (o-sauce-er-a, ig-o-daro), a 6-9, 200-pounder, will arrive on campus next summer and have four seasons of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.
Â
"We want to welcome the Ighodaro family to Marquette University," Wojciechowski said. "He is one of the top student-athletes in the United States and his potential is limitless.
Â
"He has great length, mobility and a versatile skill set that will allow him to play multiple positions," Wojciechowski added. "He's a terrific young man and we can't wait for him to arrive on campus."
Â
A nationally ranked recruit, Ighodaro is ranked 74th in the nation by 247Sports.com and 97th in the country by Rivals.com. He is also rated as high as 11th at his position and has been nominated for the McDonald's All-American game.Â
A three-year letterwinner under head coach Gino Crump, Ighodaro averaged 10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game for the Thunder, which finished 17-10 overall in 2018-19. He was tabbed the school's scholar-athlete of the year among juniors, claimed city defensive player of the year honors and was selected second team all-region.
Ighodaro was a member of a district championship squad as a sophomore in 2017-18 as the Thunder collected a 25-5 overall record and made a trip to the semifinals of the state tourney.
He was the only freshman on the varsity roster in 2016-17 at Desert Vista High School and helped the program to a semifinal appearance in the state playoffs. The Thunder finished 19-6 overall and ranked as high as third in the state.
Ighodaro has competed on the summer league circuit with the 17U Arizona Select UA Rise team, which features multiple NCAA Division I commitments. He earned first-team recognition at multiple events, including stops on the UA Rise league.
