OPPONENT
GREEN BAY (2-1): Green Bay opened its 2019-20 campaign with a 115-105 overtime win against Central Michigan, followed by a 66-60 loss to South Dakota. Green Bay most recently defeated Missouri, 72-64 at the Kress Center. The Phoenix outscored the Tigers in the first three quarters and held a game-high lead of 18 points going into the fourth. Redshirt junior Caitlyn Hibner led the Phoenix scoring a career-high of 20 points while Frankie Wurtz (15), Madison Wolf (12) and Robson (11) joined Hibner in double digits.
THE SERIES
The Phoenix lead 35-9, in a series dating back to 1980. Last season the Golden Eagles defeated their in-state foe, 80-54, at the Al McGuire Center, which snapped a six-game winning streak by Green Bay. Spingola shot 5-of-9 from the floor, connecting for a season-high of 17 points in the game.
WHAT THE TEAM IS SAYING:
On the Northwestern loss…
"I thought we had the momentum late in the game and had a couple of opportunities down the stretch to win the game and not go into overtime, but for a non-conference game with our six freshmen and people in new roles, this is going to be valuable for us down the road. Trying to take the positives out of it, we had so many things- whether it was our defense when we couldn't score in the first half, I'm just really proud of this team for hanging in there and getting really, really close to beating a quality team.
