The Golden Eagles knock down a season-best 11 three-pointers
GREEN BAY, Wis.—It was a full defensive effort on display as the Marquette women's basketball team toppled Green Bay, 60-47, on Tuesday evening at the Kress Center, holding the Phoenix to well-under their season scoring average.
Marquette (4-1) had four players record double-digits for the second time this season as Selena Lott led with 18 points, while Isabelle Spingola tallied 15. Jordan King and Lauren Van Kleunen recorded 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Golden Eagles combined to hit a season-best 11 three-pointers with Spingola connecting on 5-for-9 and Lott and King each adding three from long range, while shooting 44.7 percent (21-47) from the floor.
Marquette got on the board first and never trailed the Phoenix (2-2) as the defense held Green Bay to an eight-minute scoring drought to close out the first quarter and into the second. MU was able to withstand a series of runs by the Phoenix late in the game when the lead was cut to nine points.
Van Kleunen grabbed eight boards, while Altia Anderson pulled down seven as the squad outrebounded Green Bay, 35-28 and held the Phoenix to just 38% shooting.
Frankie Wurtz and Karly Murphy led Green Bay with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The Golden Eagles earn their first win at Green Bay since 2007 and their second straight victory after winning last year in Milwaukee.
UP NEXT: Marquette hosts No. 10 Mississippi State on Monday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. CT.
