Marquette To Feature Nike N7 Uniforms
Marquette will wear special Nike N7 uniforms when the program faces Robert Morris on Saturday in support of the University's Native American Heritage Month programming.
Since 2010, N7 has partnered with select collegiate basketball programs to create turquoise jerseys and shorts. More than a color, Turquoise holds symbolic prestige and power in many Native American communities. Marquette has participated on an annual basis, featuring special uniforms, warmups and shoes.
Nike is committed to getting youth in Native American and Aboriginal communities moving so they can lead healthier, happier and more successful lives. Through Nike's N7 Fund, it supports organizations that provide sport and physical activity programming to youth in these communities. The N7 Fund helps them reach their greatest potential through play and sport and creates more equal playing fields for all. Since 2009, the N7 Fund has awarded more than $7.5 million in grants to 259 communities and organizations.
Cain/Elliott Adding Depth Early In 2019-20
Redshirt junior Greg Elliott missed all of last season with an injury and junior Jamal Cain averaged under nine minutes per appearance in 2018-19, but both have made contributions off the bench early this year.
The duo has combined to chip in 12.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per outing in over 20 minutes of action per contest through the first three games.
In the team's most recent outing at Wisconsin, Elliott and Cain finished 6-of-9 from the floor, 3-of-4 from long distance, scored 17 points and also grabbed seven rebounds.
In 2018-19, Cain started three of the 29 games in which he appeared and contributed just 1.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per outing.
Marquette Continues Defensive Focus
Marquette featured one of the most improved defenses in the country at the conclusion of 2018-19 and that trend has continued early this season.
In three games, opponents are shooting just 35.6 percent from the floor and 32.3 percent from behind the 3-point line. The Golden Eagles have blocked an average of 6.3 shots per game and are out-rebounding teams by over four caroms per game.
MU Has Better Connection From Long Distance
Through the first three games of the season, the Golden Eagles are shooting better from behind the 3-point line than they are from the field overall.
Marquette has connected on 42.9 percent of its shots from the floor, including a 44.8 percent effort (30-of-67) from distance. MU has knocked down just 39-of-94 shots (41.5 percnt) of its opportunities from inside the 3-point line.
