
MU Opens Megan Duffy Era with 70-48 Win over Morgan State

Junior guard Selena Lott scored a career-high 24 points for MU
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette women's basketball team opened the 2019-20 campaign with a 70-48 victory over Morgan State on Tuesday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center.
Three Golden Eagles (1-0) scored in the double figures, led by junior guard Selena Lott, who tallied a career-high 24 points. She scored 17 of her 24 points in the second half, shooting a scorching 9-for-13 from the field and 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Lott's previous career-high was 19 points, which she hit on March 3, 2019 at Providence.
Senior Isabelle Spingola added 13 points, three assists and three boards while freshman forward Camryn Taylor chipped in 10 points and three boards in her collegiate debut. Sophomore Chloe Marotta tied a career-high with nine rebounds while also scoring seven points in her first-ever collegiate starting assignment, while freshman Jordan King dished out seven assists in her debut.
MU and Morgan State (0-1) were tied at 13 after the first quarter before the Golden Eagles clamped down on defense, holding the Bears to 1/10 shooting in the second quarter. Marquette was able to capitalize and went on a 16-3 scoring run to head into halftime with a 29-16 lead.
The Bears were led in scoring by junior forward Dahnye Redd (13 points), while six other players scored between four and nine points.
MU built its lead to 25 points in the fourth quarter and never let its opposition get closer than 14 points away after coming into the second half with a 13-point lead.
The Golden Eagles shot 45.6 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from the arc on the afternoon while holding MSU to 34.5 from the field and 21% from the 3-point line.
