Coan, Cukaj, Prpa and Sunesson honored for their academic accomplishments
MILWAUKEE – Four Marquette University men's soccer players have been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team. This marks the seventh time in the past eight years that a Marquette player has earned this distinction.
Â
It's the first time in program history that four Golden Eagles were named to the Academic All-District 6 team. The previous program-best was three players, which happened in 2017, 2013 and 2012.
Â
For the third year in a row, senior midfielder Luka Prpa, who earned CoSIDA Academic All-American® honors in 2017 and 2018, earned academic all-district honors.
Â
Fellow senior Josh Coan and sophomores Lukas Sunesson and Manuel Cukaj earned their first-ever CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. MU men's soccer players made up four of the 13 representatives (31 percent) on the District 6 team.
Â
All four of MU's all-district honorees are eligible for All-American status, and they will be placed on the All-American ballot. Voting begins Nov. 12.
Â
MU will take part in the BIG EAST tournament for the second straight season, earning the sixth and final spot in the six-team bracket yesterday after defeating DePaul on the road for the first time in 17 seasons. A postseason bid was clinched when Seton Hall, which entered the day in sixth place in the conference standings, fell to Villanova, 1-0.
Â
The Golden Eagles will take on the third-seeded Providence Friars on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. CT in the tournament quarterfinals at Anderson Field in Providence, Rhode Island. Television coverage will be had by the BIG EAST Digital Network.
