
Track and field at Wisconsin Red & White Classic on Friday

The Golden Eagles are in action for the last time prior to the BIG EAST Indoor Championships
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams head to Madison for the Red and White Classic which will begin on Friday, Feb. 15 at the Shell.
Athletes competing in the weight throw and the shot put on both the men's and the women's side are back in action after a week off. Senior Brandon McKinney looks to improve on his recent weight throw distance of 20.01 meters at the UW Parkside Ranger Classic, placing him at second on the all-time leaderboard at Marquette.
Junior Daniel Armstrong will be back in action, competing in the high jump where he holds the MU record with a 2.21-meter leap.
Seniors Catherine Sherwood and Allison Chmelik look to continue their success in the long jump and the triple jump respectively. Sherwood holds the eighth-place long jump record at Marquette, and Chmelik stands at seventh in the triple jump.
Last week's GVSU Big Meet was highlighted by a third-place finish for sophomore Daniel Bendel in the 60-meter heat with a time of 7.05 seconds, a new personal best and the No. 7 mark in the MU record book. Sophomore Samuel Johnson was the only Golden Eagle victory on the day in the men's triple jump (14.64 meters). Johnson will be competing in the long jump where he stands at fifth at Marquette (7.17 meters), and Bendel will be returning to the 60-meter sprint.
Field events will commence at 3:30 p.m. CT with the women's high jump, followed 15 minutes later by the men. Running events will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the first round of prelims, starting with the 60-meter hurdles. This is the last meet before the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23.
