Track and Field Performs Well at Red & White Classic

Marquette's next meet is the BIG EAST Indoor Championships
MADISON, Wisconsin – The Marquette men's and women's track and field teams finished up competition in one of the final indoor competitions of the season at the Shell in Madison, Wisconsin Friday night in the Red and White Classic.
In a 13 event meet, the women notched five victories, and the men achieved eight.
"We're in a good spot; where we want to be, heading to the BIG EAST next weekend and pretty much accomplished what we were looking for in a successful meet," said Marquette head coach Bert Rogers. "We're definitely looking forward to stepping up to the challenge."
Senior Keely Knobbe broke the MU record in the weight throw with an impressive PR of 18.71 meters, acquiring the bronze in competition.
Continuing an impressive Marquette showing, senior Brendan McKinney took gold in the weight throw with a distance of 20.51 meters, improving upon his second-place mark in the Marquette all-time record book.
The Golden Eagles took first in both the men's and the women's high jump, with sophomore Marin McClowry (1.70 meters) and junior Daniel Armstrong (2.12 meters) taking the victories. Samuel Johnson also finished with a gold in the long jump, continuing his dominance in the event.
The next meet is Feb. 22-23 at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio.

- Allie Flando's 14.03 meter mark in the shot put moved her up to the ninth spot in the Marquette record books.
- Terrance Howard moved to 10th in the MU record books in the shot put with a 15.86 meter throw.
- Cameron Jemison tied for third in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.55 meters.
- Joseph Keys notched a third place finish in the long jump with a 6.80 meter leap.
- Silver in the high jump went to the efforts of Lindsey Mirkes with a 1.65 leap.
- Allison Chmelik (11.03 meters) and Molly Evans (10.98 meters) took second and third respectively in the triple jump.
- Daniel Bendel tied his own personal record in the 60-meter sprint with a 7.14 second finishing time.
- Sam Sagan took bronze in the 200 meter with a 24.07 second time.
- Silver and bronze went to Johnny Hyland (4:27.26) and Michael Tremonti (4:27.73) respectively in the mile.
- Ben Konopko (8.28 seconds) and Ross Bravo (8.36 seconds) took second and third respectively in the 60-meter hurdles.
- On the women's side, Nora Keller with a season best 5:14.20 took second in the mile, followed by teammate Kalina Gardiner with a 5:16.49 time.
- Kelsey Hunn took bronze in the 60-meter hurdle race with a second-fastest personal time of 9.14 seconds.
