MU picks up first road win of the season
The Marquette University men's tennis team (3-2) picked up its first road win of the season Sunday afternoon, downing Valparaiso 5-2 in non-conference action.
The Golden Eagles are in the midst of a four-match road swing and dropped a narrow 4-3 decision at Purdue on Saturday afternoon.
MU claimed the doubles point and resulting 1-0 lead with victories at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Â Juniors Luke Smrek and Brett Meyers edged their Crusader opponents 6-4 at No. 2 to secure the point.
Marquette continued the momentum into singles play and quickly earned a trio of straight-set wins to claim the team victory. Senior Alvaro Verdu, senior Greg Anderson and sophomore Luis Heredia Gomez finished in succession, with Heredia Gomez earning the fourth point.
MU returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Minnesota. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT.
