Blockton's 25 points led five Golden Eagles in double figures
CHICAGO—The 10th-ranked Marquette women's basketball team withstood a second half surge to defeat DePaul, 93-87 on Sunday afternoon at McGrath-Phillips Arena. The win is the 10th in-a-row for the Golden Eagles and keeps them perfect in BIG EAST play.
Marquette (19-3, 10-0) was led by Allazia Blockton with 25 points as she paved the way for five MU players to record double-digits for the eighth time this season. Danielle King fouled out, but tallied 18 points with eight rebounds, while Amani Wilborn added 17 points. Erika Davenport tallied her eighth double-double of the season and sixth in seven games scoring 15 points with 12 rebounds and Natisha Hiedeman finished the day adding 14 points.
The Blue Demons (15-7, 6-4) scored 37 points in the third quarter to put pressure on Marquette and close the gap from a 13 point lead the Golden Eagles held. Down the stretch, MU converted key plays and free-throws to pull out the victory. Chante Stonewell led DePaul with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while three other Blue Demons reached double digits.
The Golden Eagles had just six assists in the game, but finished the day shooting 50 percent (34-68) from the floor.
Marquette will return home for two games beginning on Friday, Feb. 8 when the squad hosts Georgetown at 7 p.m. CT on FS1. It will be an all-access experience with head coach Carolyn Kieger and the Hoyas' coach James Howard wearing live microphones from tip-off through both team' post-game speeches.
