No. 19 Marquette claims season opener, 15-9, over Bellarmine

Eleven different Golden Eagles scored on National Marquette Day
MILWAUKEE – The No. 19 Marquette University men's lacrosse team kicked off its 2019 regular season with a 15-9 win over Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields as part of the National Marquette Day festivities.
Eleven different players scored for the Golden Eagles (1-0), who opened a 3-0 lead in the first 1:35 of regulation following goals from Andrew Romagnoli, Luke Anderson and Peter Henkhaus. Three of MU's seven first quarter goals came in transition and the new 80-second shot clock was felt with a total of 78 shots in the contest.
Orsini, John Wagner, Peter Henkhaus and Tanner Thomson each scored twice, while Jackson Ehlert, Holden Patterson and Logan Kreinz tallied their first career goals. Patterson started his NCAA debut as MU's X attackman alongside Wagner and Thomson.
Marquette goalie John Hulsman made six saves against his former team, while all four of MU's netminders saw action in the second half.
Junior Jared Hershman and freshman Thomas Washington split time at the face-off X for most of the contest, while John Underwood got three late draws. In all, MU won 19-of-28 at the dot, with Washington winning 8-of-9 and Hershman going 11-for-16.
Marquette improves to 5-2 all-time in season openers and has evened the series, 3-3, against the Knights.
Riley Seay, Landon Trout and Stephen Votto each scored twice for Bellarmine (0-2).
The Golden Eagles continue non-conference action on Friday, Feb. 15 with a 6 p.m. Central time game at Jacksonville.
