MILWAUKEE – Tanner Thomson scored five goals and Jared Hershman won 22-of-27 faceoffs as the Marquette University men's lacrosse team topped Michigan, 16-13, on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields.
Hershman's 22 face-off wins and 21 ground balls are both program records for the Golden Eagles (4-3), who have now won three in a row after suffering three-straight losses.
In addition to Thomson, who continued his hot play after posting six points in Tuesday's win at Robert Morris, Peter Henkhaus and Andrew Romagnoli each posted hat tricks. Senior John Wagner also notched four points in the win and Ryan Fazio had two goals and an assist.
Marquette built a 5-1 lead after Decker Curran tallied the game's first goal for the Wolverines less than a minute into regulation. Michigan answered with goals at the end of the first and start of the second period before Thomson's fourth pushed the MU edge to 9-3 before the half. Â

Michigan was playing without the services of third-leading scorer Brent Noseworthy.
