Marquette Track and Field Caps Weekend in Central Florida

The Golden Eagles enjoyed opening the outdoor season in the Florida sunshine
ORLANDO, Fla.--Multiple Marquette University women's and men's track and field athletes concluded the first weekend of the 2019 outdoor season on Saturday at the Black & Gold Challenge, hosted by the University of Central Florida at the UCF Track & Soccer Stadium.
Senior Keely Knobbe opened the competition throwing 40.6 meters (133 feet, 6 inches) in her sixth attempt in the discus for seventh place in the event, while freshman Lizzy Cagle threw for 32.85 meters (107 feet, 9 inches) and sophomore Allie Flando notched a mark of 31.31 meters (102 feet, 8 inches). On the men's side, seniors Brendan McKinney (47.41 meters, 155 feet, 6 inches) and Terrance Howard (45.94 meters 150 feet, 8 inches) finished in fifth and ninth place, respectively. Freshman Vinnie Voudrie also competed in the discus placing 16th.
Junior Daniel Armstrong jumped to a tie for fifth all-time on the performance list winning the high jump with a mark of 2.10 meters (6 feet, 10.75 inches) as sophomore Lindsey Merkes took fourth place on the women's side with a 1,68 meters (five feet, six inches). Junior Breanne Marchan was sixth with the same tally and Marin McClowry claimed eighth place in the event.
Flando and Cagle also competed in the shot put on Saturday placing 13th and 14th, respectively, while Voudrie finished 19th overall. In the men's event Howard threw 15.52 meters (50 feet, 11 inches) and took sixth.
Madison Ricciardi and Kelsey Hunn ran 15.24 and 15.34 second, respectively in the 100 meter hurdles followed by the men's event which saw freshman Ben Konopka running 14.76 seconds for 10th place, launching him to number seven on the all-time scoring list. Sophomore Ross Bravo ran 15.08 second in the same event.
In the men's 400, Joseph Keys and William Eggers ran 50.01 and 50.77, respectively.
In the 100 meter dash the Golden Eagles had Marchan running for the women and she ran her way to seventh all-time for the MU scoring list with 12,02 seconds for 10th place.
Hunn and Riccardi were back on the track in the 400m hurdles finishing in 10th and 12th place as Konopka took 11th place crossing the finish line in 59.80 seconds.
The final event of the day saw junior Madison Marko competing in the 200m dash and she ran 25.64 seconds for Marquette, closing out the meet.
The Golden Eagles will be off until Friday, March 29 when MU will send competitors to the Joey Haines Invitational in Missouri and the Wash U Invitational in St. Louis.
