
Track and field heads to Missouri for pair of meets

The distance runners will compete Friday at Washington University, while other athletes head to SEMO
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams will send athletes to two meets in the state of Missouri on Friday and Saturday at the Joey Haines Invitational and the Washington University Distance Carnival.
Marquette's 5,000- and 10,000-meter runners will take part in the event at WashU on Friday, with the men's 5k beginning at 4:15 p.m. The Joey Haines Invitational, hosted at Southeast Missouri State, will carry over from Friday into Saturday with the hammer throw and the 10k being the only events competed on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles look to continue their success from the first meet of the outdoor season at the Black & Gold Challenge at the University of Central Florida on March 15.
Senior Brendan McKinney, who sits at fourth all-time in the hammer throw at Marquette, looks to continue his success after taking a victory in the event with a 52.98-meter toss (173 feet, 10 inches) in Florida.
On the women's side, Rachel Seraphine acquired silver in the pole vault at 3.70 meters (12 feet, 1.5 inches), while senior Keely Knobbe moved to No. 8 all-time in the MU record book in the hammer throw with a heave at 53.73 meters (176 feet, 3 inches).
The Joey Haines Invitational will begin on Friday, March 29 at the Abe Stuber Track & Field Complex with the women's hammer throw at 3:30 p.m. The meet will resume on Saturday at noon with the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
