Eight Golden Eagles recorded top-three finishes on Saturday
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field squads concluded their second weekend of action during the outdoor season on Saturday afternoon at the Joey Haines Invitational, hosted by Southeast Missouri State.
"It was cold, rainy and windy for the majority of the meet," MU head coach Bert Rogers said. "We competed hard. It was a good opportunity for our athletes to get outside, get on the track and get their events in. It was a good chance to get some reps in, even though the conditions made it difficult to get some really good marks. There were also some solid efforts last night at the WashU meet, a lot of PRs and a good opener for the distance crew. We're looking forward to getting after it next Friday at the Valley."
Senior Madison Ricciardi placed second in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.54 seconds, while Kelsey Hunn placed fourth in 15.34 seconds.
Allie Flando (14.03 meters) and Monica Voudrie (12.62 meters) finished second and third, respectively, in the women's shot put.
In the men's side on the track, sophomore Daniel Bendel (49.93 seconds) placed third in the 400-meter run, senior Connor Boos (10.69 seconds) was second in the 100 and freshman Ben Konopka (14.76 seconds) was second in the 100-meter hurdles.
Senior Brendan McKinney (50.94 meters) was third in the discus on Saturday after placing sixth on Friday in the hammer throw, while Eric Fellin captured the men's javelin crown with a top heave of 59.98 meters.
