The Golden Eagles continue action at the Joey Haines Invitational on Saturday
ST. LOUIS - Marquette University's distance runner took part in the Washington University Distance Carnival on Friday evening in St. Louis, while a handful of throwers competed in the hammer throw at Southeast Missouri State's Joey Haines Invitational.
"I felt like it was a good day for our athletes. The first meet of the year outdoors is always interesting because you are seeing the way people come off indoors. We had some great races and several PRs but others who will improve as the season goes on," associate head coach Mike Nelson said.
Mary Hanson was the top MU finisher in the women's 5,000-meter run in a time of 17:36.80 for an 11th-place finish. Caitlin McGauley placed 15th in 17:40.19. In the 10k, freshman Kendall Pfrimmer was MU's top finisher in 37:46.77 (14th place).
On the men's side, Alec Miller placed 19th (14:57.40) and Brad Eagan was 22nd (14:59.17) in the 5k. Jon Klaiber, Daniel Pederson and Ryan Burd placed seventh through ninth in the men's 10k.
Keely Knobbe (seventh, 53.73 meters) and Brendan McKinney (sixth, 56.88 meters) were MU's top finishers in the women's and men's weight throw, respectively at SEMO.
The Joey Haines Invitational resumes on Saturday at noon with the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
