Program making first-ever foreign tour
The Marquette University men's soccer team will take the program's first-ever foreign tour when the squad travels to England during Spring break from March 8-17.
The travel party will visit London and Manchester during the 10-day journey, participate in four international friendly matches, visit sightseeing destinations and attend an English Premier League match at Selhurst Park Stadium.
The trip aligns with the University and athletic department's strategic initiatives to provide a complete student-athlete experience while at Marquette. Per NCAA rules, teams are allowed to conduct a foreign tour every four seasons. Later this summer, men's basketball, volleyball and men's golf will also travel overseas. Each trip is made possible through the generosity of athletic donors.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for our entire program, especially for the lads who have been working extremely hard since they arrived on campus this Fall," head coach and England native Louis Bennett said. "We are appreciative of the support of our administration and generous donors and can't wait to have an experience our players will remember the rest of their lives."
Marquette's roster features a number of international players, including England natives Louis Yuill (London), Sam Thornton (Rotherham) and Josh Hancock (Torbay). Along with Bennett, assistant coaches Sean Hughes and Graham Shaw also hail from England.
