Daniel Armstrong is an NCAA All-American for the second year in a row
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Marquette University junior Daniel Armstrong earned NCAA Second Team All-America honors in the men's high jump for a second year in a row with a 14th-place finish at the 2019 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday.
Armstrong cleared the bar at 2.10 meters on his second attempt, but it took him three tries to clear 2.15 meters (7 feet, 1/2 inch). The junior's top height was the same as Georgia's Darius Carbin and South Dakota's Zack Anderson, but Armstrong finished third among the group due to his previous misses.
Armstrong won the BIG EAST men's high jump indoor title for the third time on Feb. 23, but it was his jump on Dec. 7 at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside that stood up throughout the indoor campaign as his qualifying mark entering the meet. That leap of 2.21 meters (7 feet, 3 inches) is a lifetime best and places him second all-time in Marquette history.
The Michigan City, Indiana, native counts his name among a distinguished list of successful Marquette high jumpers. Other past MU All-Americans in the men's high jump include Wally Ellenson, Ed Burke and Ken Wiesner.
