Marquette's decathletes kick off the week's action on Wednesday at Azusa Pacific
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams will compete at four separate meets this coming weekend in Florida and California.
The throwers, led by Marquette associate head coach Mike Koenning, will compete at the South Florida Collegiate on Friday and Saturday in Tampa, Florida. MU's runners and jumpers will head to California for the Mt. SAC Relays, the CSULA Twilight and the Bryan Clay Invitational on Wednesday through Friday.
Multi-event athletes Will Eggers and Joe Keys will kick off the week's action on Wednesday, April 17 in the decathlon at Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invite. Both have their sights on the Marquette program record of 7,236 points, set by former BIG EAST champion Matt Piekarski in 2006. Keys set the MU freshman record at the same meet last season and the program record in the heptathlon during this past indoor campaign.
The rest of MU's contingent in California will get underway on Thursday with distance runners Caitlin McGauley, Ryan Burd, Jon Klaiber and Daniel Pederson competing at Mt. SAC and the others at Cal State LA. The group will then come together on Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Koenning will take nine throwers with him to Florida, led by reigning-BIG EAST Men's Field Athlete of the Week Brendan McKinney as well as fellow seniors Terrance Howard, Eric Fellin, Amanda Hodgson, Keely Knobbe and Monica Voudrie.
Following this weekend, the Golden Eagles have two more weeks of competition before the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 10-11 in New York City.
