Ben Konopka sets MU freshman record in 110 hurdles at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams continued action at the 2019 Drake Relays on Friday at Drake Stadium and had a group of athletes compete at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
At Drake, Ben Konopka set the Marquette freshman record in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.48 seconds that also ranks fourth all-time at MU. Fifth-year senior Mathew Peter also notched a personal-best mark of 14.59 seconds (No. 5 all-time).
The Golden Eagles began the day with both the men's and women's 4x1,600-meter relays, in which the women's group of Emily Foley, Mary Hanson, Nora Keller and Caitlin McGauley recorded in the sixth-fastest time in program history (20:37.99). They placed 11th in the event, while the men were eighth in 17:30.89.
MU also ran the 4x800-meter relay on both the men's and women's sides, with the men's group of Derek Gross, Alec Miller, Danny Peterson and Brad Eagan recording the second-fastest mark in program history at 7:26.54.
Lauren Neiheisel led four MU women in the 5k at Whitewater with an event victory in 17:57.66, while Hannah Gorin claimed top honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:53.29). Also earning an event victory on the women's side at the Drake Alternative meet was Molly Evans with a triple jump distance of 10.86 meters.
On the men's side, Patrick Bruch won the steeplechase to lead four Marquette runners in the top four spots.
