MILWAUKEE – Former Marquette men's lacrosse player and 2016 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Liam Byrnes was voted into the 2019 Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game, which will be held Saturday, July 27 at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland.
Byrnes, who is in his second year with the Atlanta Blaze, sits second in the MLL with nine caused turnovers and is 12th with 21 ground balls through six games. The 2016 USILA Second Team All-American has also notched a pair of assists and competed in the 2018 MLL All-Star game on Team USA.
The West Islip, New York native led the Golden Eagles to their first NCAA Championship appearance in just their fourth season of competition in 2016. The Golden Eagles won their first BIG EAST tournament title that year and the defenseman was honored as the championship's most outstanding player. Byrnes, who saw time at close defense and as a long-stick midfielder during MU's first 61 games, ended his career as the program's all-time leader in ground balls (218) and caused turnovers (102).
