Howard, Keys, Mirkes Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

MILWAUKEE - Marquette University track and field senior Terrance Howard and sophomores Joe Keys and Lindsey Mirkes have received U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors for the 2018-19 academic year.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must compile a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must compile a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
- For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org
- For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
A sophomore from De Pere, MirkesĀ owns a 3.73 GPA while majoring in biomedical sciences. The only Golden Eagle woman to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in 2019, she finished as the BIG EAST runner-up in the outdoor high jump (1.70 meters/5-7 feet) and qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary rounds. Mirkes also garnered All-BIG EAST accolades in both the indoor and outdoor high jump in 2018.
Howard (throws) and Keys (Multis) each earned USTFCCCA All-Academic awards on the men's team. Howard, a senior from Brooklyn Park, Minn., finished the year with a 3.318 GPA. The corporate communications major was the BIG EAST discus champion this spring in addition to earning all-conference honors in both the hammer throw (outdoor) and weight throw (indoor). He went on to compete at the NCAA West Preliminary rounds and took 45thĀ in the discus (50.75 meters/166-6 feet).
A mechanical engineering major from Downers Grove, Ill., Keys completed his sophomore year with a 3.528 GPA and finished as the BIG EAST decathlon champion. He also earned All-BIG EAST honors for his performances in the long jump and heptathlon (indoor). His 7,138 points in the decathlon is good for No. 2 all-time in the eventĀ in MU track and field history.
Additionally, both Golden Eagles track and field teams received the team award with at least a 3.0 cumulative team GPA. The women posted a 3.31 GPA and the men's team had a 3.18 GPA in 2018-19Ā academic year.Ā
