The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday at Ball State
FORT COLLINS, Colorado – The Marquette University women's soccer team fell 2-0 at Colorado State on Thursday evening in its season opener at CSU Soccer Field.
Senior goalkeeper Maddy Henry made 10 saves for the Golden Eagles (0-1), marking her highest save total since recording the same amount against then-No. 4 Georgetown on Oct. 18 of last year. Henry played all 90 minutes, as did fellow senior captains Emily Hess and Bri Jaeger on MU's backline.
Both goals for the Rams (1-0) were scored by senior midfielder Caeley Lordemann, who led the squad with five last season. Lordemann's first came in the eighth minute and her second came just over eight minutes into the second half at the 53:21 mark.
Marquette's starting lineup featured three newcomers as graduate transfer Natalie Yass (Northern Illinois) joined freshman Josie Kelderman in the midfield and freshman defender Addie Shock. Yass had a shot on goal saved midway through the second half from outside the 18 and a team-high three total shots. Shock, wearing No. 16, received a yellow card in the fourth minute.
CSU posted an 18-7 advantage in shots for the match with all but one of MU's strikes coming after the break. The Rams also posted three corner kicks to MU's two in the first half.
The Golden Eagles return to Milwaukee on Friday before a Sunday match at Ball State at noon Central time.
