Smrek, Meyers headed to Milwaukee Tennis Classic
The Marquette University men's tennis team opens the fall portion of its 2019-20 campaign this weekend with participation in a pair of tournaments.
Â
The Golden Eagles will send representatives to both the 44th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic (Sept. 20-23) and the Notre Dame Fall Invitational (Sept. 20-22) in South Bend, Ind.
Â
Seniors Luke Smrek and Brett Meyers will play in singles and doubles action at the MTC in a field that includes players from across the nation.
Â
"The Milwaukee Tennis Classic has been an important part of our program for over 40 years, head coach Steve Rodecap said. "Luke and Brett are extremely excited to be participating and it's an event our guys look forward to each season."
Â
The remainder of the roster will compete at Notre Dame in multiple singles and doubles flights.Â
Â
The Golden Eagles return eight letterwinners from last season's team, which advanced to the championship match of the BIG EAST Tournament. Four of the regular members of the team's singles lineup are back and the program added a trio of talented freshmen.
Â
"The fall season is the perfect time to get our returnees some time to knock the rust off from the summer and also see what we have with the new guys," Rodecap said. "Regardless of where they are in school, we will identify areas of their game they need to work on."
