Pair of freshmen earn first career wins
The Marquette University men's tennis team opened the fall portion of its 2019-20 campaign on Friday with competition in both the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and the Bayliss Fall Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame.
The Golden Eagles had just two players at the MTC, seniors Brett Meyers and Luke Smrek. The duo dropped its opening doubles match and each also fell in his respective main draw singles matchup.
The remainder of the roster is in action at Notre Dame, in both singles and doubles competition. Friday's results included first career wins for freshmen Stefan Dragovich and Nathan Balthazor. Dragovich held off his opponent in a tiebraker and Balthazor was a straight-set winner.
Action continues at both events on Saturday and will conclude Sunday morning.
