The Golden Eagles welcome the Rams for their final non-conference match
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's soccer team returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Valley Fields against Colorado State at 1 p.m. in its last non-conference match of the season.
The match will air live on GoMarquette.com's All-Access Player with Chris Reisner on the call. Live statistics will also be available.
The Golden Eagles kicked off the regular season against the Rams in Fort Collins, Colorado on Aug. 22 and fell 2-0. CSU's leading scorer Caeley Lordemann scored twice and MU keeper Maddy Henry made 10 saves to become Marquette's all-time leader.
MU has a full week off following the CSU match before opening BIG EAST Conference play against defending champion Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, Sept. 29.
MARQUETTE (2-6-0):
The Golden Eagles own wins over Michigan and Minnesota, but are coming off consecutive losses to Utah State, Milwaukee and Northern Illinois … Each of MU's last two losses have come in double overtime, setbacks at Milwaukee, 1-0, and at home against NIU, 2-1, on Friday evening … Exactly half of MU's matches have gone to extra time … Both of Marquette's wins have come 1-0 and five of its first seven games overall were decided 1-0 … MU earned its first win of the season on Sept. 1, courtesy of Kylie Sprecher's 108th minute goal in double overtime … Sprecher's score was MU's first goal of the year, ending a stretch of 379:36 to start the year without a tally … Freshman Josie Kelderman scored the winner in the 1-0 victory at Minnesota on Sept. 5 but MU was outshot 13-4.
LAST TIME OUT:
Marquette fell to Northern Illinois, 2-1, on Friday night in the 102nd minute on a goal from NIU's Madison Kaufmann. The Golden Eagles held a 14-8 edge in shots in regulation but needed an 87th minute score from sophomore Macey Shock to push the match into overtime. Shock's goal was just MU's fourth of the year. Freshman Mel McNamara earned her first career start in net for Marquette and made a pair of first half saves while not conceding a goal in 45 minutes of action.
COLORADO STATE (5-1-1): The Rams have gone 4-1-1 in the six matches since opening the season against the Golden Eagles on Aug. 22 … CSU rolled to a 3-0 win at Valparaiso on Friday night, led by a pair of goal from Kristen Noonan … Colorado State previous three matches went to overtime with Caeley Lordemann posting OT winners against Grand Canyon and Denver … Lordemann leads the team with five goals through seven matches – she also scored twice against MU in the opener and once against SIUE on Aug. 25.
