#MUWBB Resumes BIG EAST Play vs. St. John's

The Golden Eagles went 3-1 during non-conference play
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette women's basketball team resumes BIG EAST competition on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. Central time against St. John's (2-3, 0-1 BIG EAST). FloHoops will provide streaming coverage while GoMarquette.com will show live stats.

The Golden Eagles (4-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) have won three straight games since dropping a non-conference game to Milwaukee on Dec. 2. On the other hand, the Red Storm have lost three straight, including their conference opener vs. Villanova.

Led by second year head coach Megan Duffy, the Golden Eagles are coming off a 24-8 (13-5 BIG EAST) season in which they finished as conference runner-up and advanced to the BIG EAST tournament title game for the fourth straight year.

MU is anchored by seniors Selena Lott (17.2 ppg.) and Lauren Van Kleunen (14.8 ppg.) while the team returns eight letterwinners and three starters from last year. This includes BIG EAST All-Freshman Team selection Camryn Taylor, who's averaging 11.8 points and 7.4 rebounds as a sophomore this year.

Under Duffy, the Golden Eagles are 28-9 overall, having won 76% of the games in her tenure thus far. Duffy is 72-29 overall as a head coach.

St. John's (2-3, 0-1 BIG EAST) is led by ninth-year head coach Joe Tartamella, who sits third on the all-time wins list in school history. He's 164-103 overall during his time with the Red Storm.

In 2019-20 SJU had a successful season, going 19-12 (11-7 BIG EAST) and totaling its highest offensive output since 1994-95, scoring 72.3 points per game. The Red Storm have made the postseason in six of the past seven seasons.

• So far in 2020-21, the Red Storm have posted wins over Fairleigh Dickinson (70-44) and Saint Peter's (85-47). Their losses are to Villanova (74-65), Delaware (93-88) and UMass (63-61).
• SJU is led by senior guard and 2019-20 All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Qadashah Hoppie, who missed the first three games of the season before coming back to average 22 points and four boards per game in the past week.

• She notched 11 double figure scoring efforts in her first year in Blue & Gold. Taylor netted a career-high of 23 points in a road win over Seton Hall in January.
• Taylor is picking up where she left off this year, averaging of 11.8 points and 7.4 rebounds (team-high).
• She netted a career-best 27 points against MKE after notching a double-double (17 pts/11 reb) at UND.

• Senior guard Selena Lott is coming off a breakout season that helped her garner significant preseason acknowledgement both around the conference and nationally.
• So far in 2020-21, Lott leads the team in scoring (17.2) and assists (4.4) while ranking third in rebounding (5.6). She ranks in the top five in the BIG EAST in scoring, assists free throw % (.900) and 3FG made (2.4).
• Perhaps the team's best all-around player, Lott has 37 double figure scoring games in her career. She notched her first career double-double in a win at Belmont (12/13) grabbing a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with 18 points and five assists.
• Lott was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Dec. 14 after averaging 22 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 75% from the field last week.Â
MAROTTA THRIVING IN INCREASED ROLE
• The Mequon, Wis., native started 13 games last year as a sophomore and played in all 32.
• She averaged 4.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per game. She doubled both her playing time and production after averaging just over two points in seven minutes as a freshman.
• Marotta's breakout performance last year came against St. Francis (11/7/19) when she scored a career-high 20 points to go along with 12 boards in the team's victory.
• The two-time BIG EAST All-Academic selection has started in all four games this season and tied her career-high in rebounds with 12 against Milwaukee (12/2).
