Arianna Mansavage and Julian Wright hit top-10 all-time marks for MU
IOWA CITY, Iowa. – The Marquette University track and field teams completed competition at the two-day Black & Gold Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
MU came away with event victories in the women's pole vault and 400m. On the men's side, the top finish was a runner-up placing in the 800m race.
"This weekend was a solid midseason meet with good competition for us to see how we measure up," Marquette head coach Bert Rogers said. "Our kids competed hard and several were able to go out and set personal records, so it was great to see that hard work pay off."
The top performance of the day on the women's side came from sophomore sprinter Arianna Mansavage, who continued her breakout season by winning the 400m with a PR time of 56.11. Her performance is the fourth-best all-time in MU indoor history. Junior pole vaulter Brielle Buechler came out on top in the pole vault with a mark of 3.50 m/11-5.75 ft.
For the men, Derek Gross placed second in the 800m with his season-best effort time of 1:53.67. Freshman sprinter Julian Wright's 200m time of 22.13 was good for No. 6 all-time on the program's top-10 list.
Caitlin McGauley, Emily Noone and Kendall Pfrimmer all set personal records in the women's mile. Senior distance runners Daniel Pederson and Ryan Burd also ran personal bests in the men's mile.
Up Next:
Student-athletes from the men's and women's teams will be dispersed across three meets next weekend. The multis competitors will head to the Windy City Classic at Chicago State to compete in the heptathlon. Most of the team will go to the Parkside classic, but several distance runners will head back to Notre Dame to compete.
