Julian Wright Breaks 400m School Record at GVSU Big Meet

Five Golden Eagles hit program top-10 all-time marks
ALLENDALE, Michigan. – The Marquette University track and field teams finished up at the GVSU Big Meet with five top-10 all-time marks and one school record on Friday evening.
"We had several outstanding performances today from our kids, especially in the running events," head coach Bert Rogers said.
Freshman Julian Wright's record-breaking performance in the 400-meter dash highlighted the meet as he broke the school record with a time of 48.24. Teammate and fellow freshman Zachariah Murray finished less than a half second behind him at 48.41 (No. 3 all-time).
Wright also finished ninth in the 44-runner 200-meter dash race with a time of 21.92, which puts him at No. 4 all-time in program history.
The Golden Eagles had several top performers in the 5000-meter, with seven student-athletes running PR's. Senior Caitlin McGauley also ran a personal best in the 5k (17:23.05).
The mile was another race where MU performed admirably. Daniel Pederson (4:12.66), Derek Gross (4:12.82), Danny Peterson (4:16.15), Alex Gill (4:19.92) and Josh Urban (4:21.74) all hit PR's for the men's team. Emily Foley (5:02.12), Kate Jochims (5:04.23), Lauren Neiheisel (5:05.55) and Anna Buckstaff (5:18.62) ran personal best marks for the women's side.
In longer distance action, Ryan Burd took 10 seconds off his PR in the fast heat of the 5000-meter (14:35.65) and Mary Hanson (9:51.03) and Kendall Pfrimmer (10:01.10) hit PR's in the women's 3000-meter.
"We'll get back to work this week in practice and start ramping up to make sure we're ready to make a run at the BIG EAST Championships," Rogers said.

MU will partake in the Panther Tune-Up next weekend at Milwaukee to prepare for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on March 1-2 in Cleveland, Ohio.
