Marko Hits Top-Five Mark in Pentathlon; MU Performs Well at Notre Dame

Marko beat her previous best pentathlon score by almost 200 points
CHICAGO, Ill. – Marquette University track and field multis student-athletes Joe Keys, Simon Werven and Madison Marko competed in the heptathlon and pentathlon at the Windy City Rumble on Friday afternoon at the University of Chicago.
Marko, a senior from Kenosha, Wis., set a personal record in the pentathlon with 3,506 points (#4 all-time), besting her previous best of 3,309 points. She took second place among all competitors in Chicago, setting PR's in three of the five events she competed in. Her long jump distance of 5.78 meters/18-11.50 feet highlighted her performance and helped her emerge victoriously in the event.
Participating in the heptathlon, Joe Keys set PR's in all four of the events he competed in today. He'll take part in the final three events tomorrow. He won the 60-meter dash (7.10), long jump (7.32 m/24-0.25 ft), shot put (12.71 m/41-8.50 ft) and took second in the high jump (1.85 m/6-0.75 ft). He currently holds the school record with 5,338 points and has a great chance to top that mark tomorrow.
Freshman Simon Werven also took part in the heptathlon for MU. He took third in the 60-meter dash (7.37, PR), fifth in the long jump (6.25 m/20-6.0 ft, PR), fourth in the shot put (10.11 m/33-2.00 ft, PR) and third in the high jump (1.85 m/6-0.75 ft).
MEYO INVITATIONAL:
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – MU had its men's and women's distance runners compete in the 5,000-meter races at Notre Dame on Friday evening.
Sophomore Kendall Pfrimmer set a PR with a time of 17:39.08 on her way to a ninth-place finish for the women's team.
On the men's side, four Golden Eagles set PR's, led by senior Daniel Pederson with a third-place finish (14:30.85, No. 4 all-time) in a field of 45 runners. Ryan Burd finished second among Golden Eagles and took 14th overall with a time of 14:46.04. August Beyer (15:00.97) took 20th and Jordan Janusiak (15:03.45) placed 22nd.
UP NEXT:
Student-athletes from the men's and women's teams will be dispersed across three meets tomorrow. Keys and Werven will finish the heptathlon at the Windy City Classic in Chicago, while most of the team will go to the Parkside Classic. Several distance runners will finish up at the Meyo Invitational as well.
