Senior guard first MU selection since Dwyane Wade
Senior guard Markus Howard of the Marquette University men's basketball team is one of five players named a Sporting News First Team All-American, it was announced on Wednesday morning.
A consensus second team honoree as a junior, Howard is the first Marquette player to earn a first-team selection since Dwyane Wade in 2002-03. Wade, Dean Meminger (1970-71) and Butch Lee (1977-78) are the only consensus first team members in school history. A total of 30 players have garnered All-America accolades for Marquette.

The Chandler, Arizona native currently leads the nation in scoring and is a candidate for national player the year. His record-setting season and career includes the following accomplishments.

- Only player in last 20 years with multiple 50-point games and owns 3-of-4 in BIG EAST history (Marshon Brooks, Providence vs Notre Dame Feb. 23, 2011).
- Fourth player in major conference history with 40 points on consecutive days, joining Johnny Neumann (Ole Miss), Pete Maravich (LSU) and Bob Pettit (LSU)
- Third major conference player to record a 50-point game in three consecutive seasons. The other two: Wayman Tisdale (Oklahoma, 1982-85) and Pete Maravich (LSU, 1967-70)
