The Golden Eagles resume non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon at Michigan
MILWAUKEE - Brad McCulley's third goal lifted Robert Morris past the Marquette University men's lacrosse team, 11-10, with 4.7 seconds remaining on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields.Â
The loss in the second in a row for the Golden Eagles (3-3) who were led by two goals apiece from sophomore Holden Patterson and senior Peter Henkhaus. Junior goalie Gabe Stein made 13 saves in his first start of the year between the pipes for the MU defense, which was led by redshirt sophomore Zach Granger who picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers.Â
Henkhaus gave Marquette its last lead, 10-9, with four minutes remaining, but MU's inability to win face-offs down the stretch proved costly. The Colonials (4-2) won the ensuing face-off and scored the equalizer with 2:24 on the clock on an Austin Popovich tally.
Marquette had the ball following a timeout with just over a minute remaining but ended up giving the ball away on a shot clock violation, allowing RMU the chance to end the game in regulation.
McCulley led the Colonials with a hat trick, while Popovich, Ryan Smith, Elliot Holden and Jake Boudreau each scored twice.
Marquette returns to action on Wednesday, March 11 at 3 p.m. Central time against Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The game will air live on BTN+.Â
