Senior guard set league single-season scoring mark
Senior guard Markus Howard of the Marquette University men's basketball team has been named All-BIG EAST First Team for the second-straight season, the league office announced Sunday afternoon.
Howard, the 2018-19 BIG EAST Player of the Year, is the first Marquette player to be named first team all-league in back-to-back seasons since Travis Diener was an All-Conference USA First Team honoree in 2003-04 and 2004-05. Howard was a unanimous selection by the league's head coaches in both seasons.
The Golden Eagles have had at least one player honored each year since the program began league affiliation with the Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1989-90.

The Chandler, Arizona native currently leads the nation in scoring and is a candidate for national player the year. His record-setting season and career includes the following accomplishments.

- First in BIG EAST history with 1,587 points in career league games and 1-of-5 players to reach 1,000 pts. in three years

- Owns 68 career games of 20-or-more points, 32 of 30-or-more, seven of 40-plus and three 50-point games
- Only player in last 20 years with multiple 50-point games and owns 3-of-4 in BIG EAST history (Marshon Brooks, Providence vs Notre Dame Feb. 23, 2011).
- Fourth player in major conference history with 40 points on consecutive days, joining Johnny Neumann (Ole Miss), Pete Maravich (LSU) and Bob Pettit (LSU)
- Third major conference player to record a 50-point game in three consecutive seasons. The other two: Wayman Tisdale (Oklahoma, 1982-85) and Pete Maravich (LSU, 1967-70)
