MU Track & Field Takes Home 17 All-BIG EAST Honors

Armstrong, Mirkes and Voudrie won conference titles for the Golden Eagles
NEW YORK -Â Sixeen Marquette University student-athletes (nine men and seven women) earned 17 All-BIG EAST honors at the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships presented by Jeep from March 1-2 Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

One hundred twenty-two indoor track & field student-athletes overall were named to the All-BIG EAST team after their performances. The All-BIG EAST squad is comprised of competitors who finished in the top three in any individual or relay event at the championships.

Sixty-three women and 59 men complete the list. A total of 33 student-athletes – 20 men and 13 women – earned all-conference for multiple events.

Five women received all-conference honors in three events: Butler sophomore Camille Ines, DePaul junior Kiersten Walker, St. John's junior Leah Anderson, Villanova freshmen Anna Mark-Helwig and Brynne Sumner. Walker and Anderson also received All-BIG EAST accolades in three events in 2019. Anderson was the 2020 High Point Co-Performer of the Meet as she won BIG EAST gold in all three of those events: 200-meters, 400-meters and 1,600-meter relay.

For the men, two athletes earned all-league honors in three events: Georgetown junior Lawrence Leake and Villanova sophomore Charlie O'Donovan. Leake also earned all-conference accolades in three events at last season's meet.

On the women's side, the BIG EAST title-winner Villanova had a conference-best 14 student-athletes on the all-conference team. Third-place Butler had the second-most with 12.

For the men, BIG EAST champion Villanova had a league-high 18 all-conference honorees. DePaul and Georgetown tied for the second-most with 12.

Of the 122, 31 were freshmen, 29 sophomores, 37 juniors and 22 seniors.
