
Womenโs soccer adds OVC Freshman of the Year Hailey Block

Grafton native transfers to MU after one season at Southeast Missouri
MILWAUKEE โ Marquette University women's soccer head coach Frank Pelaez has announced the addition of transfer Hailey Block, the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, from Southeast Missouri.
"We're excited to get Hailey on campus," Pelaez said. "After a very successful freshman season, she's determined to prove her worth in the BIG EAST Conference. She's wants to earn a greater role and we're happy she's decided to do that back in Milwaukee."
Block spent one season in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and returns to southeast Wisconsin where she spent her prep career at Grafton High School.
Block started 12 of 17 matches as a freshman midfielder in 2019 at SEMO, scoring eight goals and adding an assist in 1,017 minutes of action. In addition to OVC rookie of the year honors, Block was an All-OVC Second Team selection and earned a spot on the all-newcomer team.
Her first two career scores came on Oct. 3 against SIU Edwardsville and she scored in seven of her final eight matches including six consecutively from Oct. 3-25. She scored the team's lone goal in a 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament semifinal loss to SIUE on Nov. 8 as the Redhawks concluded the season at 11-5-1 overall in 8-1-1 in OVC action.
As a four-year starter at Grafton High School, Block finished as the all-time leading scorer in school history with 94 goals and 26 assists. She was named Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Areaย Player of the Year as a senior after scoring 28 goals with five assists and earned first team all-state and all-conference honors. In total, all-league accolades in each of her four high school seasons and played for North Shore United under head coach Joe Hammes.
