Golden Eagles Set to Host Eastern Illinois for Alumni Night

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's soccer team (3-1-4, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 19 for Alumni Night as the Golden Eagles take on Eastern Illinois (2-3-3, 0-0-0 OVC). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.

LAST TIME OUT
Marquette went 0-1-1 during its last two matches on Sept. 10 and Sept. 13, falling 1-0 at No. 17 Baylor before battling Loyola to a 1-1 draw at Valley Fields. The Golden Eagles opened the week with a road matchup against the nationally ranked Bears, recording eight shots, including one on goal. Goalkeeper Mia Hurd made six saves, including five in the second half, to keep Marquette within one goal throughout the contest.

Marquette returned home Sunday and played Loyola to a 1-1 draw, being outshot 17-13 while putting seven shots on goal. After Loyola took the lead in the 67th minute, Kiley McMinn equalized just 60 seconds later for her first collegiate goal, with assists from Clare Shea and Callie Hefner. Hurd made five saves in the draw, including four in the final 15 minutes, as Marquette moved to 3-1-4 on the season.

HURD EARNS FOUR-STRAIGHT HONORS
On Monday, Sept. 14, the BIG EAST announced Mia Hurd as a member of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, marking her fourth-straight weekly conference honor to open her collegiate career.

Hurd earned the honor after making 11 saves between Marquette's two matches last week. She recorded six saves against No. 17 Baylor before making five stops in a 1-1 draw against Loyola. Hurd made nine of her 11 saves in the second half between the two matches, including four in the final 14 minutes against the Ramblers.

Hurd has now earned either BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week or Honor Roll recognition in each of the first four weeks of her true freshman season, including two Goalkeeper of the Week honors and two Honor Roll selections.
Hurd currently ranks 13th nationally in save percentage (.897) and 18th in goals-against average (0.40).

ALUMNI NIGHT
On Saturday, Sept. 19, Marquette University women's soccer welcomes Golden Eagle alumni back to Valley Fields for Alumni Night, celebrating the history and tradition of the program.

The evening will include special recognition of the 1996 Conference USA co-championship team, the 2006 NCAA Tournament team and the 2016 BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and NCAA Tournament team.

STRONG DEFENSIVE START
Marquette has established itself as one of the nation's top defensive teams through the opening eight matches of the season. The Golden Eagles rank 21st nationally and third in the BIG EAST with a 0.50 goals-against average. Marquette also ranks 22nd nationally and third in the conference with an .875 save percentage.

MU has allowed just four goals through eight matches, with two coming via penalty kicks and two off set pieces. The Golden Eagles have not surrendered a goal from the run of play this season.

MU also ranks 61st nationally and fourth in the BIG EAST with a .500 shutout percentage.

MURRAY RECORDS INTERNATIONAL POINT
Marquette junior forward Megan Murray made her mark on the international stage, recording her first career international point while representing the Philippines Women's National Team at the 2026 Asian Games.

On Sept. 17, Murray entered as a substitute in the 57th minute and made an immediate impact, recording an assist just six minutes after entering the match to help the Philippines secure a 2-0 victory over Hong Kong.

Murray and the Philippines will return to action Monday, Sept. 21, when they face China.

FIRST MEETING WITH EIU SINCE 1997
Marquette has won both all-time meetings with the Panthers, but Saturday's outing will mark the first matchup since the 1997 campaign.

The Golden Eagles were victorious in each outing, most recently earning a 1-0 decision on Sept. 5, 1997.
