
Junior Joe Keys takes home a USTFCCA All-Academic award for the second straight year

MU has earned All-Academic Team honors in 14 of the past 15 seasons
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams have earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honors for the 2019-20 academic year.
Junior All-American multis student-athlete Joe Keys also received individual honors for the second straight year.
The criteria for being named an All-Academic Athlete is as follows:
An All-American in the heptathlon during the 2020 indoor season, Keys had a sensational junior season on and off the track.
A mechanical engineering major from Downers Grove, Ill., Keys finished the 2019-20 school year with a 3.577 GPA. He earned All-BIG EAST honors in the 60-meter hurdles with a runner-up finish at the BIG EAST Championships in March. Keys also earned his first career BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 24.
His top performance of the season came at the Windy City Rumble on Feb. 7 when he beat his own school record in the heptathlon with 5,667 points, which qualified him for his first ever nationals. Although the NCAA Indoor Championships were cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, as one of 16 student-athletes to qualify for the heptathlon, Keys took home All-American honors.
Additionally, both Golden Eagles track and field teams received the team award once again as they both had at least a 3.0 cumulative team GPA. The women posted a 3.549 GPA and the men's team had a 3.089 GPA in 2019-20 academic year.

The criteria for being named an All-Academic Athlete is as follows:
- Minimum CUMULATIVE grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, certifiable by either NCAA Faculty Rep or NCAA Compliance Coordinator or Registrar's Office. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0].
- Must have completed at least two (2) semesters or three (3) quarters at the nominating institution.
- For the indoor season: must have finished the season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event, or in the top 48 in any championship relay event, for the most recent indoor season, certifiable by their place on the NCAA Division I descending order lists on TFRRS for Indoor Track and Field (including performances achieved outside the qualifying window during the indoor season).
