Weekly feature highlights former players
Marquette men's tennis players are scattered across the world and our new Alumni Spotlight feature will allow us to provide personal and professional updates on the student-athletes who represented the University on the court and continue to be ambassadors today.
Nick Dykema | 2013-2017 | De Pere, WI
Current Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Employer/Profession: I'm currently working at Harley-Davidson's Product Development Center as a Financial Analyst. I've been back in Milwaukee since last April. Previously, I worked in Institutional Equity Sales at a small investment bank in Chicago.
What I remember best about Marquette: Time spent with teammates. Whether we were on road trips, in the locker room, or hanging out at the tennis house, my best memories in college were spent with teammates.
There were a number of matches I'll never forget. When Dan Mamalat clinched a 4-3 win against Denver to get us ranked. When Greg Anderson capped off a 4-3 comeback on the road against DePaul after Mackenzie Stearns saved 7 match points. When we stormed the court after taking down DePaul 4-3 in the Big East Semifinals.
Fellow students. I built so many lifelong friendships from the day I stepped on campus. I'm still close friends with guys from Mashuda Hall freshmen year and Business School classmates. Also, the academic and athletic support staff. Everyone at Marquette genuinely wanted to help set you up for success after graduation.
300's with Todd Smith, hot cookie nights at McCormick and Cobeen, and storming the Bradley Center floor after beating Villanova senior year.
Fun fact: Although I was in worse shape than almost every single one of my teammates, I believe I hold the tennis team's unofficial squat record. Don't ask me how many pull-ups I could do or make me go to another yoga class.
Rodecap on Dykema: "When I think of Nick, I think of Character. If there is a stereotype of a player we want in our program, it would be Dykema. He represented our program with such class and had a calming influence on the guys around him. He was the epitome of team first, and was one of the best teammates to ever compete in our program. His parents, John and Lisa, might be the most supportive Marquette Tennis Family we have had in my time at Marquette."
