Claire Kaifes tallied a career-high 12 points
MILWAUKEE -Â The Marquette women's basketball team defeated Butler 95-57 on Sunday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse to earn its third straight conference victory and sixth road win of the year.
Lauren Van Kleunen scored a season-high 21 points while Selena Lott (17 points), Claire Kaifes (12) and Camryn Taylor (11) joined her in double figures in another explosive offensive performance for the Golden Eagles (9-2, 6-1 BIG EAST).
Marquette shot a season-best 62.3% (38-61) from the field and had 29 assists on its 38 made baskets. MU raced out to a 51-27 halftime lead and never looked back, keeping the Bulldogs (1-11, 1-10 BIG EAST) at arms length the rest of the way.
Sophomore guard Claire Kaifes tallied her third game this season hitting multiple 3-pointers as she nailed four of MU's season-best nine threes on the afternoon.
Senior guard Selena Lott had another strong afternoon with 17 points, six assists (team-high) and five rebounds and she now sits just three points away from becoming the 30th Golden Eagle in program history to hit the 1,000 career point mark.
Jaia Alexander led Butler with 22 points and five rebounds while Genesis Parker chipped in 10 points for the Bulldogs.
POSTGAME NOTES:
-Marquette scored a season-high 95 points, its second game over 90 points this season.
-Claire Kaifes tallied career-highs in points (12) and 3-point field goals (4).
-Marquette won the rebounding battle for the 40th time in the 43 games of the Coach Duffy era (32 to 20).
-MU posted a season-best 29 assists on its 39 made baskets as a team. It's the second straight game with over 25 assists.
-The Golden Eagles moved to 8-0 this season and 21-3 under Coach Duffy when shooting over 45% from the field.
-It's the fifth time this season MU has shot 50% or better, including the third game in a row. It's the first time the Golden Eagles have made over 60%.
-63% shooting for the game is a new season-best and it's the 12th time in the last two seasons MU has made over 50% of its field goal attempts.
-Selena Lott registered her 42nd career double-figure scoring game (17 points) and sits just three points away from 1,000 all-time in her career.
-Lauren Van Kleunen scored a season-high 21 points on 10/14 shooting from the field.
-The Golden Eagles had 10 different players score points.
