MU had five players score in double figures
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Marquette women's basketball team emerged victoriously in a 95-77 triumph at Villanova on Wednesday evening at Finneran Pavilion. MU (10-2, 7-1 BIG EAST) earned its fourth straight conference victory and league-best seventh road win of the year.
Selena Lott led the way with 27 points and 11 assists, scoring 17 points in the third quarter to propel her team to an exhilarating victory against the Wildcats (9-3, 4-3 BIG EAST). She led a group of five Golden Eagles to reach double figures as Camryn Taylor (16 points), Chloe Marotta (13), Jordan King (12) and Lauren Van Kleunen (10) all scored 10-or-more points. Freshman Liza Karlen chipped in eight points and three boards.
MU started fast on the offensive end, hitting 12 of its 18 shots in the first quarter to burst out to a 27-14 lead after 10 minutes of play. After leading by 11 points at half, the Golden Eagles created more separation in the third quarter when Selena Lott led the team on a 30-12 run, scoring 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting in a nine minute stretch.
Lott and MU had plenty of cushion heading into the final 10 minutes after building an 80-54 lead. The team was able to get some of its reserves some playing time in the fourth quarter as all 12 active players saw the floor.
On the night, MU shot 52.9% (37-70) from the field and had 27 assists on its 37 made baskets. The Golden Eagles also hit a season-best 10 3-pointers, getting five from Lott and two from freshman Liza Karlen.
The Wildcats shot 47.5% from the field and had three players in double figures, but it wasn't enough as MU's offensive arsenal proved to be too much to overcome.
The BIG EAST's leading scorer at 24 points per game, sophomore Maddy Siegrist led Villanova with 19 points and eight rebounds. Brianna Herlihy also had 19 points while Sarah Mortensen chipped in 13.
