MILWAUKEE –  The Marquette University men's golf team will travel to Sugar Grove, Illinois, on Oct. 2-4 to compete in the 2021 Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate, hosted by Northern Illinois University at Rich Harvest Farms.
Â
THE EVENT
MU finds itself in a 12-team field along with Northern Illinois, Arkansas State, James Madison, Kansas State, Miami (Ohio), Purdue, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. The Golden Eagles begin first round action on Saturday at 10:10 a.m. on the first tee alongside Wisconsin and Kansas State. Second round action will commence at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Monday's third round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.Â
Marquette has won team titles twice on visits to Rich Harvest Farms, first in the 2017 Northern Intercollegiate and again in 2018. Hunter Eichhorn finished in third in his second career start in the 2017 tournament and tied for 12th in 2018. Tyler Leach tied for 16th in 2018 in his second career event.
The Golden Eagles set a tournament record in 2017 at 32-under par, while OJ Farrell was medalist at 14-under par. Austin Kendziorski set a course record in the first round in 2017 with an 8-under 64.
THE COURSE
Rich Harvest Farms features a par-72 course that is set to play 7,200 yards. In 1987, Jerry Rich began to develop Rich Harvest Farms on his 1,820 acre property in Sugar Grove, Illinois out of a love of golf and golf course design. What started out as one hole eventually blossomed into an 18-hole ultra-private golf course, built and perfected over a period of 10 years. When it officially opened in 1999, Rich Harvest Farms was rated the Fifth Best New Private Golf Course by Golf Digest. Three years later, Golf Digest placed the course on "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses," where it remains to this day.
WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
Head Coach Steve Bailey: "It's always exciting to go to a place you have familiarity with and have won the last two times. That's going to give us a good frame of mind going into it, but we've still got to go out and convert and take advantage of our opportunities. We scorched the place two tournaments ago, but last time we won at 1-over, or even par, so the course showed its teeth a little more than the year prior. It's a good, tough Midwest golf course, where par is a good score. If we can go out and play our game and be smart about things we should be contending on the final day."
THE LINEUP
Nos. 1-5: Hunter Eichhorn, Max Lyons, Tyler Leach, Nicolás Evangelio, Bhoom Sima-Aree
INDIVIDUAL: Scott Schlader
Eichhorn was honored on Wednesday afternoon as the BIG EAST Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for his play on Monday and Tuesday at the Windon Memorial Classic. Eichhorn tied for third with a 6-over 207 following Tuesday's final round at Lake Shore Country Club. The reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year was the defending champion of the event and was alone in first place at the conclusion on Monday's opening round with a 5-under 66. He wrapped up his second round Tuesday at 1-over and shot a 2-under 69 in the final round.Â
Eichhorn remains at the top of Marquette's lineup and leads the Golden Eagles with six of nine rounds at par-or-better. Lyons is back in the No. 2 spot, while Leach, Evangelio and Sima-Aree round out MU's top five.
Leach closed out action at the Windon Memorial as MU's No. 2 with 1-over-par 214 to place 30th overall. Sima-Aree, who held a spot in the MU lineup at the Gopher Invitational earlier this fall, returns to the MU lineup after not participating at the Windon Memorial.
