Hunter Eichhorn paces MU's lineup in a tie for fifth at 3-under

SUGAR GROVE, Illinois – The Marquette University men's golf team is tied for second with a 6-under-par 282 after the first round of action at the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate.
Graduate student Hunter Eichhorn leads the Golden Eagles individually in a tie for fifth place with a 3-under 69. The reigning BIG EAST Conference Men's Golfer of the Week went out on the front nine at even par and came back in at 3-under with an eagle on the par-5 11th and a birdie to close out his round on the par-5 18th.
Freshman Max Lyons posted a team-high six birdies on Saturday, but offset that with four bogeys and a double on the par-3 16th hole. He is in a tie for 25th at even-par 72.
Nicolás Evangelio closed his opening round with birdies on the final three holes and is currently MU's No. 2 with a 2-under 70 in a tie for 10th.Â
Bhoom Sima-Aree got off to the best start on the team, posting four birdies on the front nine to make the turn at 4-under. He dropped three strokes on the back nine with a pair of doubles on the par-4 12th and 17th holes
Tournament-host Northern Illinois leads the field at 9-under and MU is in a tie for second with Purdue at 6-under. Missouri sits fourth at 4-under.
Second round action will commence at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Monday's third round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.Â
Marquette has won team titles twice on visits to Rich Harvest Farms, first in the 2017 Northern Intercollegiate and again in 2018. Eichhorn finished in third in his second career start in the 2017 tournament and tied for 12th in 2018. Tyler Leach tied for 16th in 2018 in his second career event.
The Golden Eagles set a tournament record in 2017 at 32-under par, while OJ Farrell was medalist at 14-under par.Â
