
Marquette falls to No. 24 Creighton in four sets

MILWAUKEE -Â The Marquette University women's volleyball team fell to No. 24 Creighton in four sets (23-25, 25-23, 12-25, 20-25) on Friday night in the first match of a brief two-game homestand.

MU now sits at 18-4 on the season and 9-2 in BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles hit .146 (50-25-171) on the evening to Creighton's .245 (59-19-163).

Taylor Wolf led Ryan Theis' squad with 13 kills and Savannah Rennie trailed closely behind with 11. Hannah Vanden Berg added nine kills and Hope Werch had seven while recording three service aces. Werch needs just one more ace to tie the Marquette program record of 177 service aces.

Rennie also finished with a team-high six total blocks. Carsen Murray added three, and four Golden Eagles finished with two.

Marquette dropped a closely contested first set that featured eight ties and five lead changes. Rennie had six kills, but four kills from Creighton's Norah Sis and three from Jaela Zimmerman, Annika Welty and Kendra Wait allowed the Bluejays (21-3, 9-2 BIG EAST) to take the early lead. Sis and Zimmerman both went on to finish with a game-high 16 kills.

After trailing 16-11, Marquette responded emphatically by going on a 14-7 run to take the second set, 25-23, and even things at one. Creighton would go on to come out on top in the next two sets, handing MU its first loss since Oct. 10.

NEXT UP:Â The Golden Eagles are back at the Al McGuire Center tomorrow night at 6 p.m. Central time for a meeting with Providence before hitting the road on Nov. 5 to begin a four-game road trip.
