MILWAUKEE - Hope Werch recorded three service aces to set the Marquette all-time record and the women's volleyball team made quick work of Providence on Saturday evening at the Al McGuire Center in a 25-10, 25-18, 25-14 sweep.
Werch tied Christine Norgle's 33-year old record with 177 service aces at the end of the second set and broke the mark to put the Golden Eagles ahead 16-12 in the final frame. She added another ace two serves later by causing an errant pass from a PC passer.
"It was pretty cool," Werch said following the match. "We've had that banner up for a couple weeks so it's been something that when it came to my attention that I was close, that 'woah, I could actually do something kind of cool.'
"Tonight I was like 'tonight's got to be the night, I've got to do it at home' and I'm just glad that I was able to do it. I thought we played consistent when they picked up their service pressure in the second set."

Werch posted nine kills on 19 errorless swings as Marquette (19-4, 10-2 BIG EAST) rebounded from last night's loss to No. 24 Creighton.
