The Golden Eagles face No. 19 Creighton on Sunday in Omaha

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – The Marquette University women's volleyball team scored the first eight points of the opening set and rolled to a 25-13, 25-20, 25-21 sweep of Providence on Friday evening at Alumni Hall.
Graduate student Taylor Wolf led the Golden Eagles (14-2, 5-0 BIG EAST) with a match-high 12 kills and Marquette hit a combined .375 (51-12-104) in the three-set match. Fellow grad student Savannah Rennie also reached double figures with 11 kills on .400 hitting and added three blocks, as did reigning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week Carsen Murray, who hit .500 with seven kills.
Shaliyah Rhoden led the Friars (13-5, 1-4 BIG EAST) with 11 kills on .357 hitting. As a team, PC hit just .172 and managed only 26 kills.
PC used its two timeouts in the opening set with MU ahead 7-0 and 15-3, but could not stop the Golden Eagles on their way to a 25-13 win while hitting .536 (17-2-28). The Friars had just four kills in the first while hitting .042, and scored five of their points on MU service errors.
Marquette had to use a timeout while trailing 14-11 in the second set, but pulled ahead 17-16 on a 4-0 run. MU then broke free from an 18-18 tie to claim the penultimate set, 25-20 while hitting .379 (15-4-29).
PC was forced to use both its timeouts in the final stanza by the time MU went up 17-11. The Friars were able to score five straight to force an MU timeout at 20-18, but the Golden Eagles closed their 10th sweep of the season with a 25-21 win.
Marquette is now a perfect 12-0 all-time against the Friars.
The Marquette women's soccer team was also in town prior to its Sunday matchup with the Friars and were a boisterous presence in Alumni Hall.
"Shoutout to our women's soccer team for coming to cheer," MU head coach Ryan Theis said. "I thought they provided some excitement to the arena and helped push us through tonight."
