
XC Men Place 20th, Women 23rd, at Great Lakes Regional

MU concludes cross country season
EVANSVILLE, INDIANA – The Marquette women's cross country team placed 23rd while the men's team took 20th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Evansville, Indiana Friday afternoon. The meet, hosted by the University of Evansville at Angel Mounds Cross Country Course, saw 30 teams competing in the men's 10k race and 32 competing in the women's 6k race. The men's team finished with 606 points and the women with 605 points.Â
"It was a great meet, it met the expectations that I had for the team," head coach Sean Birren said after Friday's meet.
The meet started with the women's 6k race that featured a field of 216 harriers. Sophomore Kate Jochims led the way for the Golden Eagles climbing nine spots in the final 2k to finish 78th overall. Jochims beat her previous 6k personal best by 20 seconds with a time of 21:36.1.
Junior Kendall Pfrimmer finished second for MU and 92nd overall. Pfrimmer beat her previous best at the Great Lakes Regional by 30 seconds with a time of 21:49.1.
Junior Emily Noone and graduate Student Emily Foley both made late pushes in the final 2k climbing over 20 spots to finish 135th and 140th respectively. Noone set a 6k personal best with a time of 22:32.3
Laurel Moneysmith completed the Marquette top-five finishing 164th with a time of 22:55.9.
The men's 10k race featured a field of 205 runners. Freshman Dan Weizeorick, in his first ever regional, paced the men with a time of 31:47.8 to finish in 81st-place. Weizerorick is the first MU athlete to run a time of 31:47 over a 10k distance since 2012.
Juniors August Beyer (109th) and Jordan Janusiak (143rd) beat their previous bests at the Great Lakes Regional with times of 32:23.2 and 33:07.4, respectively. Sophomore Patrick Hetlage finished just four seconds behind Janusiak to round out the MU men in the 10k race.Â
Senior Zak Kindl finished third for MU and 126th overall. Kindl has now placed in the top-five for the Golden Eagles in his last three meets.
"I'm hopeful that these solid results up front will encourage those that follow for the protram to stepup and join these top atheltes," coach Birren said.Â
Notre Dame and Wisconsin claimed the two automatic bids for the NCAA Championships on both the men's and women's sides.

The Marquette Cross Country season has concluded. The Marquette track and field team will begin its indoor season at the Blue & Gold Invite, hosted by Notre Dame, on Friday, Dec. 3.
