Golden Eagles suffer first loss of the season at Colorado, 69-53
BOULDER, Colorado — The Marquette women's basketball team (3-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) suffered its first loss of the 2021-22 season Friday night, falling to Colorado, 69-53, at the CU Event Center.
After an even first quarter, the Buffaloes (3-0) gained separation in the second quarter as they used a 9-0 run to take a 33-25 advantage into the half. Marquette eventually cut the CU lead down to as few as four points, but were unable to regain the lead.
Junior guard Jordan King led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 16 points, shooting 6-of-13 from the field and 3-of-6 from behind the arc. Her three 3-pointers tied a career high.Â
The Buffaloes were paced by Mya Hollingshed, who finished the night with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

The Buffaloes finished the second quarter on a 9-0 run, leading at the half, 33-25.

Marquette cut the CU lead down to as few as four points at the 3:52 mark of the third quarter.

Jordan King led all Marquette scorers with 16 points, while tying her career high for made 3-pointers (3).

MUÂ won the rebounding battle, 40-34, but committed 23 turnovers while forcing just 10.

Liza Karlen scored in double-figures for the second-straight contest while playing a career-high 31 minutes. She also led MU with eight rebounds.

Lauren Van Kleunen also reached double-figures, finishing with 11 points to go along with seven boards.

With the loss, Marquette is now 1-2 all-time against Colorado, 8-11 against current Pac-12 programs.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will travel to Florida for the Daytona Beach Invitational, where they will face Middle Tennessee (3-0) on Friday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. (CT). They will then play Georgia (3-0) on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 1:15 p.m. (CT). Both games will be streamed on FloHoops.
