Sunesson, Caceres and Soto honored by the conference Monday
NEW YORK — Three Marquette University men's soccer players were named to the All-BIG EAST teams, the conference announced Monday.
Redshirt junior forward Lukas Sunesson and freshman midfielder Edrey Caceres each earned spots on the All-BIG EAST Second Team, while redshirt freshman forward Beto Soto earned third team honors.
Sunesson, a striker from Taby, Sweden, led the Golden Eagles with six goals this season while being one of just three MU players to start all 16 contests. Five of his six goals came in league play, including a two-goal performance in Marquette's 3-1 road win at Creighton.
This is the third time in his career that Sunesson has earned all-conference honors after being named to the All-BIG EAST First Team in Spring 2021 and earning all-freshman team honors in 2018.
The only true freshman to make the All-BIG EAST Second Team, Caceres finished the 2021 campaign with nine points on three goals and three assists.
The Houston, Texas, native started in 15 of the team's 16 games in his first collegiate season, finishing third on the squad in minutes played (1,258). He scored two goals against Seton Hall (9/24) to earn BIG EAST Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week honors.
Soto, also a Houston native, earned his way on to the All-BIG EAST Third Team for the second consecutive season after totaling 11 points on four goals and three assists.
With three game-winning goals, Soto led the team and was tied as the league leader. He also tallied a team-high 30 shots, 18 of which were on goal.
