LA QUINTA, California – The Marquette University men's golf team finished 18th after three rounds of play at The Prestige in La Quinta, California on Wednesday evening at the PGA West - Greg Norman Course.
Redshirt freshman Aidan Lafferty led the Golden Eagles with a 28th-place finish at 4-over par (70-71-76--217), with PING All-American Hunter Eichhorn (69-74-75-218) one stroke higher at 5-over in a tie for 36th.
Redshirt sophomore Tyler Leach (T-79) and Nicolas Evangelio (T-82) also finished one stroke apart at 10-over and 11-over, respectively
The Golden Eagles shot a 12-over 296 on Wednesday and finished with 881 strokes over 72 holes. Marquette was sixth after carding a round one 286 (2-over) on Monday, before shooting a 15-over 299 on Tuesday and falling to 15th.
The Prestige field included a total of six ranked teams, including No. 3 Arizona State, No. 5 Pepperdine and No. 9 San Diego State. Arizona and North Carolina overcame Pepperdine and ASU on Wednesday to tie for the tournament crown with a 4-under par 848.
The team's individual competitors, Scott Schlader and Connor Brown, also competed at Coral Mountain Golf Club in a separate individual event in La Quinta. Schlader finished 40th and Brown was 43rd.
Marquette will have a month off before heading to Palm City, Florida for the Valspar Collegiate at the Floridian Golf Club on March 14-16. The event will be hosted by the University of Houston.
